Researching Green Movements in Your Neighborhood

It is hard to make your life entirely extreme green eco friendly when you are not aware of all of the ecological resources available in your local community. For this reason, we have put together a list of ideas and ways in which you can research eco friendly movements in your own area, no matter where you live!
Call your local chamber of commerce
Every city has a chamber of commerce or a local chapter for business affiliations and this excellent place to start when looking for an established company or business operation which specializes in or includes eco friendly practices and environmental help.
    Practice your social networking skills
Whether or not you are a whiz on Facebook or MySpace or Google+, social networking will get you into direct contact with fellow “green” followers who want to make a difference. Subscribe to the feeds of local eco friendly organizations and people who are passionate about the earth, and you will receive live feed of all the latest developments and ways in which you can help sustain your local economy!
    Network in person
When you go out to a rally, pick up all of the flyers which are available and talk to all of the organizations which are represented. Become actively involved, if not in the movement itself, in learning about ecological advances and in hearing about what each person can do to improve earth sustainability and fuel efficiency and biodegradable products! When you get home, take out your notepad and list all of the organizations involved. Then, make a separate list of all the features you would like in a charitable organization that you would donate to financially. Make phone calls, email representatives of each group and find out which are the most suited to your charitable abilities and interests!
    Ask everyone
When you go out to eat or go to the symphony or the opera or you simply have a business meeting, ask people around you what they do to help protect the environment and about their own participation in local organizations. That way, you can hear about and judge different operations without having to spend a great deal of time and effort exploring each one individually, one after the other.

Green Printers for Your Home or Office

Even office work must be kept in mind when choosing eco friendly liquid products. Machines which require electricity, fuel, or heavy maintenance can be both costly and damaging to the earth. Fortunately, there are some options available to the office green freak. This is especially helpful for paper consuming products, such as printers and copiers.

    Reduce your paper output

Before we begin our tour of green printing methods, it is always a good idea to try to reduce your need for paper products as much as possible. Some companies are able to operate entirely online. American internet service provider, Clear, runs an entirely paperless system where bills are only available in an online account and you can only receive paper copies of these bills if you print them off yourself. GreenerPrinter.com also offers reduction of paper output to only stocking and printing on paper that is recyclable, often using 100% recycled paper.

Use sustainable inks in your printer

Pixxlz.com, an eco friendly printing company, uses soy and water based inks to make sure that the printed paper is even more recyclable. Without using oil, the ink is more sustainable and can appear brighter on the paper. Pixxlz.com also uses chemical-free toner in their printing presses.

    Use energy saving printers

In 2009, HP launched energy-saving printers which used only a fraction of the electrical wattage of comparable printers, as well as printing multiple document content on single pages and having an option for automatically printing on both sides of the paper, reducing paper waste and usage.

2011 brought Epson into the picture, which reduced the necessary amount of power to operate by 80% to 90%. The sleep mode of this printer also focuses on conserving energy, which reduces both energy consumption and cost of energy consumption.

    Reduce carbon emissions

The 2011 Epson printer also is made with minimal usage of paint in the manufacturing process, reducing their carbon footprint by approximately 9,300 tons. Companies should always be aware of the fact that their extreme green image, as well as their revenue, could be improved through research and development of a better, safer, and easier way to make products, particularly products with recyclable parts.

The Benefits of Eco Friendly Car Ownership

According to a study done by MSN Autos, consumers are not really aware of the actual fuel saving capabilities of eco friendly cars, particularly hybrids. For example, the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) estimates fuel efficiency for these vehicles, but that is not always what occurs in real life, especially after a certain amount of wear and tear. Since hybrid and eco friendly cars can be very expensive, it is always an excellent idea to do your research well if you wish to buy a car which is geared toward reducing carbon fuel emission on our planet. Your aims may be worthy, but if they break the bank, then it may be time to examine some additional strategies for reducing fuel emissions.

    Purchase eco friendly fuel products.

In areas where this is available, green fuel products such as Envirosafe Solution’s Extreme Green Fuel Conditioner may be the answer to part of your problem. You see, little things such as inefficient combustion and corrosion and clogging can really reduce the fuel efficiency of your vehicle, no matter what type of vehicle you drive. When you purchase green products which are specifically designed to increase the smoothness and slow down the burning power of your engine, then even the most petrol-guzzling of engines can be improved.

Exercise common sense…and make it a habit

Smoothness in driving is one of the best ways to reduce unnecessary fuel burning. For example, if you are constantly stopping and starting, with even small jolts on the accelerator and brake, then this burns far more fuel than if you can easily (and habitually) anticipate when you will be stopping or slowing down, and gently ease into a gliding stop. Also, when you start back up, it helps to time your advances in such a way that you can accelerate slowly, burning far less fuel than if you accelerate quickly or unevenly.

    Take main roads

In the spirit of the previous paragraph, it is best to take more heavily traveled roads and main highways which are less likely to have a lot of starts and stops. This allows you to burn fuel more slowly. It is also easier on your vehicle as a whole, which allows you to keep it in better condition.
We live in a petroleum-based world which must change in order to maintain our current standard of living while also becoming fuel efficient, cost effective, and while protecting our environment. Envirosafe Solutions offers a wide variety of eco friendly service products, including Diesel Bug Killer and our Extreme Green Fuel Conditioner

What are the Efficiency Standard Edition and the Equipment Energy Efficiency Program (E3)?

Today Envirosafe Solutions, producers of eco friendly liquid products brings you news about the Efficiency Standard Edition and the Equipment Energy Efficiency Program– a quarterly publication that brings you up to date news on energy efficiency and the need for sourcing efficient whitegoods and electronic products.
Appliances generate an enormous amount of greenhouses gases. This is now a proven fact. This actually means that all of us in the developed world contribute significantly to greenhouse gas issues and emissions and the way we live has a direct and dire affect on our planet and the future of the world.
A real and concerted approach to this fact – one that entails personal accountability and a willingness to change – is at the very heart of what is needed for ongoing change that can save the planet from dire environmental consequences.
    The E3 Program
The E3 Program in Australia seeks to inform and implement requirements in relation to the MEPS or minimum extreme green energy efficiency requirements and mandatory energy rating labels that are now an inherent part of appliance purchase in Australia.
The program began in 1993 when it was realised that various activities in relation to power consumption by appliances needed a national and co-ordinated approach. Initially the program only referred to refrigerators and freezers which were viewed as the main offenders of CFC production.  Since then, the program has expanded its application to many appliances and has also been adopted by New Zealand as a meaningful strategy in the fight against greenhouse gas emissions.
The E3 now reports back to the Energy Efficiency Working Group and to the Ministerial Council on Energy. The basis for inclusion of new appliances depends on the community benefit that will arise if a particular appliance becomes part of the program.
Market intervention in the form of labeling

Most of you will be familiar with it. You walk into a major retail or appliance store and nearly every appliance is labelled in the corner with a large yellow star rated sticker that tells you how much energy the appliance uses. This system is actually viewed as “the world best regulatory target” and Australia needs to be extremely proud of this system. It informs, educates and safeguards the environment against the possibility of excessive energy use when more energy efficient Environmental Cleaning product alternatives may be available.

    The Efficiency Standard Edition

This is a quarterly publication that offers you more detailed appliance information as it comes to light in the retail and government sectors. The kind of information outlined gives you a thorough insight into new products. For example, the last edition in 2010 took a comprehensive look at home entertainment systems which account for around 5% of household energy use in Australia.

Envirosafe Solutions supports the government dissemination of information about energy use by appliances. Envirosafe Solutions also produces eco friendly products for homes, business and industry.

    Agriculture and Climate Change

The CSIRO recently published their long awaited Climate Change book, Climate Change: Science and Solutions for Australia. The publication provides fresh and up to date information on the latest scientific findings on many climate change topics relevant to Australia and the rest of the world. “Climate change research over many years shows links between human activities and warming of the atmosphere and oceans. This warming has caused changes to the climate system, such as changes in rain and wind patterns and reductions in Antarctic sea ice.”
But what are the real implications for agriculture. How does the agricultural sector successfully adapt to climate change here in Australia, given we are already a continent of vast extreme green and weather variations, which are only going to become more pronounced?
Envirosafe Solutions has taken a careful look at the publication’s chapter, “Adapting Agriculture to Climate Change,” and outlines the latest findings and information relevant to the sector.
    Agriculture and changing conditions

Dr. Chris Stokes and Dr. Mark Howden know all about agriculture and climate change. It’s one of their specialist research areas. Both academics maintain that “helping agriculture adapt to climate change involves helping communities to understand why adaptation is needed.” Education is key and Australians from the agricultural sector need to understand that new flexible, risk-based approaches will help, along with a simple adoption of already existing best practice management strategies and good natural resource management approaches. Radical and aggressive measures and changes to operations may not always be required, but there still is a national imperative to equip Australian agriculture to be prepared to adapt to climate change and use Environmentally Friendly Liquids.
The sector, including fishing and forestry already copes with a harsh environment, and producers may in fact be well placed and already adept at continually managing their practices to deal with extreme conditions. Climate Change and global warming may well undoubtedly add a new aspect or dimension to these conditions, but because of the historical familiarity with extreme weather patterns, Australia’s agriculture sector may fare better than its counterparts from other regions on the planet.
    Collaboration is the key

The authors however, point out that proper adaptation cannot be left to farmers and agriculturists or even governments alone. “Everyone involved in the food industry, including policy makers, research and development providers, enterprise managers, politicians and farmers can contribute to solutions by working in collaboration. For example, Governments can ensure that water and drought policies accord with successful farm adaptation and do not impede it.”  It is this collaborative approach that will ensure successful and timely adaptation occurs with minimal bureaucratic obstruction and red tape.

Envirosafe Solutions supports Environmental Cleaning Products for a collaborative approach to climate change for the agriculture sector. The sector needs to be supported through changes by bureaucracy, governments and government departments and various stakeholders. Farmers and agriculturalists need to be listened to and “every strategy should derive from working with farmers, fishers and foresters to develop a choice of alternative adaptations to suit the range of likely climates they may encounter.”

    Mining ban sparks environmental debate

A piece of wilderness in the north of South Australiahas been declared out of bounds for mining. The landmark decision to protect Arkaroola from mining has been a costly blow for explorer Marathon Resources but has been applauded by the green revolution.

After years of debate the unique Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges has been declared a mining-free zone.

Premier Mike Rann made the announcement on July 24 and won widespread community support for the environmental stance, although concerns have been raised about potential compensation costs.

Mining company Marathon Resources and its legal team have entered discussions with the State Government after investing heavily in mining exploration in the area. Shares in the junior explorer fell after the mining ban was announced.

Marathon was granted an exploration license for the uranium-rich area this year, after being banned for dumping waste in 2008. It had been preparing to start drilling in what it has described as the ‘fifth-biggest undeveloped uranium deposit in Australia’.

    Walking the tightrope

The Arkaroola ban has highlighted the balancing act involved in exploiting the nation’s rich natural resources while protecting vulnerable and unique environments.

Australian mining companies are widely regarded as world-leaders in establishing best practice mining.

The industry has a code of practice governing site restoration, air emissions, contamination, water and hazardous materials management. Switching to eco-friendly industrial liquids instead of harsh chemicals (such as the popular Extreme Green range which includes dust suppressor and non-toxic cleaners) or finding uses for mineral-rich mining waste are significant steps forward.

Yet mining continues to leave a heavy environmental footprint – soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, water contamination from non-eco-friendly liquid products and native vegetation removal are part of the price.

These concerns prompted the decision to protect Arkaroola, which will be excised from the State’s Mining Act and nominated for National Heritage Listing.

The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy has labelled the decision short-sighted, claiming it failed to accommodate future technological advances, such as mining without surface disturbance.

Compensation talks continue but for the South Australian community support for the mining ban remains high – it appears the public wants a line to be drawn in the sand. Some areas just shouldn’t be touched.

The way forward lies in developing improved technologies and continuing to implement best practise across Australia’s mining sector. Perth-based environmental cleaning products company Envirosafe Solutions proudly supports the mining sector’s green efforts by supplying the industry with its Extreme Green product range.

From bio-fuels to eco friendly products – greener skies for aviation industry

Australia could develop an aviation biofuels industry that was both economically and environmentally sustainable according to a new report by the CSIRO. The study highlights new opportunities for the aviation industry to reduce fossil fuel reliance. Teamed with other environmental initiatives (such as eco-friendly industrial products) it promises a greener way to take to the skies.

An Australia-New Zealand aviation biofuels industry could cut greenhouse emissions by 17 per cent and reduce Australia’s aviation fuel imports by $2 billion over the next 20 years.
The new industry would also generate more than 12,000 jobs.

The CSIRO study paints a promising outlook for aviation at a time when air travel has come under increased scrutiny over carbon emissions. The green revolutionof tomorrow’s aviation industry incorporates new, more aerodynamic aircraft technology.

“This study (the Flight Path to sustainable Aviation) highlights promising options for the aviation industry,” CSIRO project leader and economist Paul Graham.“It also identifies the market, infrastructure and governance changes that will be required for success.

“Through the uptake of sustainable bio-derived jet fuel, together with next generation aircraft and engines, the industry can reduce both its emissions and its reliance on imported fossil fuel.”

While bio-fuels and aircraft design look set to shape the future of sustainable air-travel, simple changes today also promise to make an environmental difference.

Initiatives such as carbon offset flights have allowed air passengers to reduce their carbon footprint as they travel the globe.

By paying a voluntary charge when booking tickets, passengers on many of Australia’s airlines – including Qantas and Virgin – can contribute to carbon reduction schemes.

Airlines can also employ best environmental practice at airports and hangers to reduce environmental footprint.

A switch to environmental cleaning products can make a big difference to air, soil and water pollution, better protect equipment and improve safety for staff and passengers.

Eco-friendly industrial liquids are biodegradable, safe and minimise the build-up of residual toxicity, which contributes to corrosion on plant and equipment –a significant safety concern for those in charge of aircraft maintenance.

Harsh solvent-based cleaners or products containing fluoride or chlorine can be replaced by environmentally friendly cleaners to reduce environmental impacts.

Leading Australian supplier Envirosafe Solutions has products which can safely and effectively replace most traditional aircraft and airport cleaners.

Its range includes the fully biodegradable and non-toxic Extreme Green Insect and Tar Remover. Safe for use on all painted surfaces and plastic and rubber components, it should be applied diluted at 1:10 parts water and left for five minutes before being wiped off with a clean, dry cloth. It makes an economical all-purpose spray and wipe cleaner when diluted at 1:50 parts water.

Research into sustainable technology – including biofuels – and a simple switch to safe, biodegradable eco-products promises a greener future for Australia’s aviation industry.
